Excel wont start

I Have a Hyundai Excel 1998 1.5 twin cam. I was out driving wen the car coughed a little but ran ok for the rest of the trip.
On my way back home the suddenly stalled and had to push the car off the road, tried to start it but didnt. had to get the excel toed home. Battery is ok, fuel 3/4 full good spark and good fuel flow from fuel tank. tried to start but still wont. have sores on my head from scatching to find the problem. Any ideas.

How many miles on the car and when was the timing belt last replaced?

Thanks for the reply. The KM is about 280,000, dont think the timing belt has been changed.

On U.S. cars, Hyundai requires the timing belt be changed every 60,000 miles (~97,000 kilometers). Normally, your car would be due for your 3rd replacement (4th belt) at almost any time. I hope your problem isn't the timing belt because if the belt has broken, there's a good chance the valve train has suffered damage. I would stop using the starter to crank the engine over. Given this possability, I'd have a mechanic look at the situation. If it turns out to not be the timing belt, you'll need to have it replaced anyway.

Good luck.

I think it would be a real hoot if Tracey was, in fact, a guy. No, I don't wish to know and it's none of my business. Let's just keep the Aussie triplets guessing.
