Help!! (please)
Hello Fellow Forumites,
My 1999 Elantra has run great up until the other day. At the same time the check engine light came on, it started skipping like crazy. I checked the plugs, they're ok. Nearest Hyundai dealer is a ways away and I don't trust many area tech's. Are there any ways to check codes by one's self? Any help would be greatly appreciated... |
RE: Help!! (please)
What do you mean by "Skipping"?? Is the engine sputtering?? Loss of power??
Might be something simple if you can be a bit more discriptive. |
RE: Help!! (please)
Brant,
Thanks. The skip is steady. I would swear someone removed a plug wire. Regardless of RPM, driving situation, the skip is there. Never gets worse, never gets better. I pulled the plugs and they all look to be working. It doesn't seem easy to pull the plug wires one by one to see which cylinder is missing. Like I say, it's like a dead hole....And it started exactly the same time the "Check Engine Light" came on. Thanks! |
RE: Help!! (please)
it might be your fuel filter

RE: Help!! (please)
This could be a ton of things. If you run it hard then it might have jumped time. The fuel filter is a big possibility, depending on your miles. When comes to reading your codes, unless you have a code reader then there is no way. A good code reader is a very expensive, but a good investment. I would replace the fuel filter as a first step and check all of the wiring. If that fails and your not real sure of your automotive skills, then send it to a shop.
