How to get deposit back from a Hyundai Dealer?
Hey fellow Hyundai enthusiasts,
I wanted your advice on an issue I am facing here in Toronto. It was about a month ago i.e. August 2011, when I started looking at Hyundai Elantra 2012 as an option as I wanted to buy a car. I went back and forth with a few dealerships and finally decided to buy it from Don Valley North at Woodbine. They seemed to be very mischievous, but I thought its just me buying a car and I am in a very wrong assumption about car dealers. They asked me to pay a deposit of $500, which I did in less than 10 seconds.
Later on, I got rejected by the leasing company called FinanciaLinx and they asked me to put down a downpayment of $2,000 for approval.
While all this was going on, I got a better deal at another dealership in Brampton. I canceled my deal with DVN @ Woodbine to pursue this better deal. DVN guys told me that I would receive my money in 5-8 working days.
I finally signed the deal with Brampton dealership and now saving money to put the $2,000 downpayment as I am new to the city.
PROBLEM: Now, DVN guys are not returning my money back. They keep pushing me around and keep giving me future dates. Its been 17 days since I canceled my deal and asked for my money back. I called up Hyundai Canada for assistance and I got no help from their end too (not that I was expecting it). Can anybody guide me as in how should I approach this problem?
Thanks a ton!

Most dealerships here tell you up front if the money is refundable. Someone wanted me to give them $1000!!! I had another only want $500. I think it depends on the dealership. Hope you don't need a lawyer.
All financial transactions in the US are dependent on the purchaser to be able to get financing. Should you make a deal in the US and then get turned down by the finance company, you are not responsible for any payment or deposit.
Unfortunately, Toronto isn't in the US.
