Default Hyundai 2007 Sonata

I had a problem while driving on the hi-way the other night. I was doing about 65 Miles per hour and suddenly my car lost all gas power. The ESC light was on and the check engine light was on. I coasted off to the side of the road and shut it off. I waited a few minutes and tried to start the engine. It started up and I was able to get home. I brought it in for service. My question is what could have gone wrong ? It never happened before. Is this going to happen again? I only have 21,300 miles on the car? My wife is afraid to drive the car now. Do you know of any recall on this problem ? Frank V.

Get the computer read to see if there are any stored codes. Most auto parts stores will read codes for free.

3.3 V6 ???

Common problem.... likely fin 2135, 2106, and 1295 as a 3 code set...

Throttle Position Sensor -> updated part and reprogram PCM with "3.3 NF ECM UPDATE K-LINE" ... it's the most recent upgrade to be used with the TPS replacement...

Run all the modules in the "FAULT CODE SEARCH" tab and see who all has codes stored.....

I have a 2007 Sonata Limited with the 3.3 V6. Didn't like the smaller output engines in the same model. Just got the car 2 months ago. It has 76,000 km (about 47000 miles) on it. It's a great car. You might want to take the car in for servicing....it does have a 5 year 100000 mile warranty. There's no reason the service dept can't help you out with this as a no charge item. Whatever you do, don't let them tell you they couldn't duplicate the fault - no trouble found. Write up a report on your pc and print a copy to give the service advisor. Tell them you need reassurance this won't be an ongoing problem. If it is the implied action is that you won't be dealing with them anymore.

re: the ESC light. Did you turn it off manually? That could account for the light. (left side dash rocker switch - you know where). If it was actually a failure of the system, there should be some kind of electronic record that can be read by the scan tool.

re: the check engine light. That could be scary. There are instructions in the manual about limping it home if this happens. Been my experience, it could be anything from a misfire, faulty O2 sensor or fuel delivery problem. Like I said before though, your car is under warranty. Use it.

Hope you find the problem soon.
