P0335 Crankshaft sensor code after Timing Belt Change XG300L
Hello,
After DIY Timing belt change, engine light came on.
I scanned the car and got P0335 Crankshaft sensor code.
Thought I messed up the timing marks, and redid the belt.
Still the same.
Ordered new Crankshaft position sensor, installed it. Still same error.
checked the voltage of the sensor plug. There is voltage....wire working.
ahhhhhhhh help?

Did you clear the code after the first time you got it? Codes don't clear themselves, you have to manually clear them. If so then my next question is did you make sure you didn't leave the old gasket in the crank sensor hole? Are you sure you got the sprockets lined up correctly when you replaced the timing belt, that would produce the error too.

yes code has been cleared each time i scanned.
xg300 crank sensor is the electro magnetic sensor type that senses the 3 blade wheel that pass in between the sensor that is attached to crankshaft sprocket. sorry but i donno what gasket you are refering to, i don't think i've seen one. =)
i'm pretty sure that i lined up the sprockets correctly...
lined the camshafts sprockets' dots at the pointy marks making 90 degree angle. [just referencing the marks]
lined the crankshaft at the "red line": sprocket has a dot on the tooth that lines up with the line. i assume this is the right mark...=)
new sensor and sensing blade was positioned properly...
am i doing something wrong here? =(
since the error is on the Crankshaft position sensor "A" Circuit, there must be something not working in the circuit.
does anyone have circuit diagram or pictures on the wiring for 2001 xg300l?
how to troubleshoot this madness...

Sprocket alignment looks good from here.
Sometimes when you replace the crank sensor, there's a little rubber gasket left in the hole, then you put a new gasket on top of it, rendering the system FUBAR. Just something to think about.
Causes
A code P0335 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
* a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
* the camshaft position sensor may have failed
* the PCM may have failed
* there exists an open circuit
* the crankshaft position sensor may have failed
Possible Solutions
With a P0335 OBD-II trouble code
, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
* Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
* Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
* Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
* Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
* Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
* Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
* Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

i'll see if there's any old rubber gasket in the sensor hole.. but i donno what's a rubber gonna do to magnetic sensor.
it's been a long week fixing this car and waiting for parts to come...
i'm [] this close to towing the car to dealers.

Speaking of dealers!!!
i forgot to check the hyundai service website for troubleshooting manual!
they got great write up for testing stuff...
i don't have oscilloscope to test the signal...but will test for short/open circuit connections with my handy dandy multimeter.
since i've replaced the sensor, doing the circuit test will be most appropriate test for now...
i'll update the results tomorrow.

YES, thank you... car is starting now.
I had a problem with wiring harness ground loop. forgot to attach ground after taking apart the batter/fuse box side.
So after i got the P0335 Crankshaft position sensor A Circuit trouble code,
Pre-troubleshooting: Redid the belt thinking that i've messed up the timing marks. - problem still exists
so...
1. I replaced the sensor - problem still exists
2. went through Wiring harness inspection outlined at
hyundai service website: hmaservice.com
went to DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Code) section, subsection P0335.
a)Terminal Connector Inspection -Good
b)Power Supply Circuit Inspection -Good
c)Signal Circuit Inspection -Good
had to make extra long probe to test the plug and PCM. (used a wire in long Cat5 ethernet cable just like I did in school )
d)Ground Circuit Inspection -No Good.
So inspected ground circuit from the circuit diagram and found that i didn't install the ground wire(ref. G16) to chasis.
