Question for Hyundai Tech!!!!

I have a 99 Hyundai Sonata V6 GLS with about 90,000 miles. Here recently my car will rev high and than drop low on the rpms sometimes causing the car to die. In addition to that the car seems to stall or get stuck in gear when trying to accelerate. I took my car in to AutoZone and they read my check engine light codes for me. The numbers they gave me were 740 which said that it was a crank shaft sensor malfunction and the other code was 335 which was TCC or something like that. I was wondering what might be wrong with my car and if it would be covered by my warranty. Thanks in advance for any help!

Nope, sensors are not part of the powertrain warranty. The two sensors I was thinking to check before you listed the codes are Crank Position Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor. TPS often fails before that point from what I've heard, so you may want to start there and see if it helps.

RE: Question for Hyundai Tech!!!!

well, if the crank sensor fails, then the cam sensor will take over. If this happen, then the engine power is reduced, and the car feels like you are running out of gas. I have replaced the one on my Y2K Sonata V6, that is why I know how it feels.

P0740 is a tranny code, complaining about a lock-up converter problem (engine stalling upruptly)

have the tranny flued replaced, and the oil cooler reverse flushed. That may fixes this stalling problem. Also, check the airflow sensor connector, and harness. Make sure, that the harness has slack, so that there is no tug-and-pull on the connector as the engine moves fore and back.

P0335 is a crank sensor code. Most likely need replacing. Also, have the cam sensor connector checked for secure and clean contact.

i got it, been researching this all week.. i have the same thing although specifically my santa fe exhibits this behavior aftter it warms up after 15 -20 minutes of driving, where it stalls, slips, idle drops to 0 at low speed or in park, dies, etc... My research is pointing to ECTS Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor...i failed sensor will fake out the computer that it us unaware that it is warmed up and totally altering fuel, idle, timing etc.

If that does not work, its the TPS,than followed by camshaft position sensor. Let me know how u make out,, ECTS might be very easy to change
