Radio Oddities

The Monsoon radio in my 2005 SF has begun acting up. Sometimes the radio or CD will be playing and the display is blank. Other times you cannot change channels or switch from radio to CD. Often all is well. It appears that turing it off for several minutes will correct the problem, however on a few occasions when starting the vehicle the display is blank. Has anyone shared this experiance or have any suggestions?

I think the problem is internal to the audio unit. I think you have one of 3 choices here. 1) Have the existing radio repaired. 2) Purchase a OEM replacement unit from the dealer or 3) purchase an aftermarket unit from some place like Crutchfields. Repairs for Monsoon audio units are handled by AER Technologies listed in the attachment. I would call them first for shipping instructions. Most folks would move on and look for a better aftermarket unit.

I actually found an option and tried it today. With most stereos and radios if you unplug the unit and hold in the power key and then plug it in again the system will reset to factory settings. On this radio I found that you either remove the radio fuse or disconnect a battery terminal for a minute or so to reset it. This will also work for stuck Cd's, etc. I'll report on results.

It has been a week and I have had no issues since using the method I described above. It is certainly easier to pull the radio fuse as opposed to rmoving the positive battery cable. Downside is that you must reset all of the preset radio stations, but minor compared to purchasing a new AM, FM, 6 CD unit for no reason at all.
