01 Accent 5 sp transmission pops out of 5th

Hi guys,

I have an 01 Accent L (1.5 L 5 speed) with 98k miles on it.

The main problem is my transmission today decided to be annoying, and when i accelerate in 5th, it pops out and requires to be held in to continue engaging. The harder i accelerate, the faster it pops out. Anyone know what the problem with this is?

Thanks

Jonathan

Probably if you look at where the shift cables connect to the trans, you can make an adjustment. Probably the cable is streched a little too much, so you want to make it shorter.

RE: 01 Accent 5 sp transmission pops out of 5th

Thanks for the suggestion- I haven't had internet access for a while until today, so i was unable to view and reply.
I have more details on the problem now- it only appears after 30+ minutes of constant freeway driving (which might explain why i've never noticed it before) - i was on a road trip to mammoth. On the way up, after I left L.A, 30 minutes into the freeway driving the gear shift started popping out. It leads me to believe that it might be heat related, since around town i never have this problem (i don't usually go that far one way). There were no issues around mammoth itself, even when i did some local sight seeing (running on the freeway in shorter bursts), and then it recurred on the way home after 30 minutes of 65-70mph, even though this time i was going mostly downhill.

I can't smell anything burning (although i have had a cold) and the gear shifting action remains unchanged. It just slides out of 5th after 30+minutes on the highway.

Could this be fixed with a transmission fluid change or something?
