Default 01 Emergency brake light will not go off

So my friend has a 01 Accent and her emergency brake light will not go off and I thought I'd research how I could get it to turn off. Could this just be because the E-brake cable is too tight and is causing the sensor to indicate that the handle is engaged? Or should i just reset the system?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

The brake light is not just for the emergency/parking brake. It's also a warning light for a failure of the braking system. First thing I would check is the brake fluid in the master cylinder. If it's very low the light will come on. But before you just fill the master cylinder you need to check the brakes on all 4 wheels and make sure the pads and/or shoes are not in need of replacement. If they are, first replace the pads/shoes and then refill the master.
