01 hyundai accent 87.000 mi auto
i purchased this car as a back up come to find out i can not safely drive at night when you start it sometimes it will not shift into gear the headlights, wipers, radio, dash lights will not turn on nor will it shift I found that slamming the doors will finally allow me to shift and the power will then operate all the above items that will not function as a result of the shifter not being able to shift i was told it is most likely a short or relay somewhere I am leaning now towards it being a defective shift control lock up solenoid would anyone confirm or deny this as being a possible cause for the issue more recently the past couple of days i am having issues with removing the key it gets stuck and will not turn to off position only turns to acc position and i can not get it out which now leads me to think it may be an ignition switch gone bad.. would this also cause the other issues posted here or are these separate issues thansk in advance

Don't know for sure.
Have seen where the nuts loosen on the shift cable and then the gear selection doesn't work properly When you can't get the gear selector into park then the key will not turn to the off position and the key will not come out As for the head lights and dash and radio, it could be a short somewhere or loose wire I am no expert. But, check the fuses first and look around for wires that are near anything metal Tap on the multi-function switch (stalk switch or headlight switch) to see if the lights will come back on |

I do not see any TSB's related to the electrical issues so I would have to suggest having that diagnosed by an electrical specialist. If it does end up needing a range/inhibitor switch we have one available here: SWITCH - INHIBITOR made by Hyundai. #4595628010

Look in the right place.
Start with looking at this. Open the glove box. Empty out what you have in there. On each side there is a clip. pull out the clip on the left first, then the right. You will then be able to drop the glove box down. On the right side there is a bunch of wires that clip into a little box. Make sure that is plugged in. Make sure the bracket for the box is secured properly with the black wires behind the bracket. those are ground wires. The transmission range sensor can be used to adjust the shifter position if it does not go into park properly. :)
