2001 Accent GL 1.6L, Charcoal Canister Question

Hi everybody. New to these forums and I wish I had signed up for a reason other than that I'm having car trouble, but I guess that's the way it goes. The problem I'm having with my Accent is the charcoal canister has gone bad and the car has subsequently become extremely difficult to fill up with gas.

From the research I've done, this is a fairly common problem for Hyundais. I actually had a mechanic look at it about 4 months ago while I was out of state and he was able to clean it up and remove the blockage, but said that the charcoal was breaking apart and it would just be a matter of time before it happened again. It seems that time is now.

I'd rather not go to a dealership, and from what I understand, like most Hyundai parts, any other garage would need to special order it. Since this is the case, I'd like to save a few bucks and order the part myself, and just have the garage install it. I was just hoping somebody would be able to confirm for me that this is the part I need.

Part #31420-22900

Thanks for the help!

There's a pretty comprehensive thread on charcoal canister problems, it sounds like you've read through them. I applaud you for doing the right thing and replacing the canister assembly, although it will probably be expensive.

My '02 Accent has 184,000 miles on it. It gave me fits for several months on slow fillups. For 10-12 fillups I had to dump charcoal pellets out of the line right there at the gas station. On my knees, losening the clamp, dumping the pellets, putting it back on. The good news? After that time, I haven't had any further problems. I've gone over a year so far.
