Hey Forum,

My wife's car is a 2012 accent hatchback with rear disc brakes.

She just mentioned to me the other day that her brakes were getting soft. I checked, and sure enough, the brake pedal goes right to the floor for it to have an effect and the handbrake is non existent.

I pulled off her tires front and back, she has more than enough pads and the rotors are nice and new looking still (40 000 km since last brake job).

Thing is, with the handbrake pulled up to the max, I can still rotate the tire by hand, but not when she brakes. It's just the the brake pedal goes to the floor to start slowing down the car.

How do I adjust 1- the brake pedal travel and 2- the hand brake?

If you brake pedal is going to the floor there is probably a problem with the master cylinder and it need to be replaced.

 

check brake fluid level
And try bleeding brake lines to get any air out of the system
Then check the vacuum hose to the brake booster
Disc brakes are suppose to be self adjusting
If nothing helps then it could be the master brake cyclinder
