2012 A/C Compressor

My A/C compressor was recently diagnosed by a Hyundai dealership as being faulty and requiring replacement. The car has less than 100,000 miles on it (as of today ~95,000 miles) and is about 8 years old. The dealership quoted me a price close to $1000 for replacement of the A/C compressor.

Does not it seem to be too premature for the compressor to fail? Has anyone experienced the compressor issue on a 2012 Accent.

Has anyone had any luck with Hyundai consumer Assistance/Affair/Relations in terms of getting Hyundai to pay for all or at least part of the cost.

P.S. The transmission failed on this car and just got it replaced under warranty. is it normal for them to use a Re-manufactured transmission (as I was told) as opposed to a new one.

Thanks,

Mike

I am sure that they used a remanufactured engine long block in my Sonata, that being said, a remanufactured transmission would be normal in my opinion. AC compressors sometimes fail before 100k, and I would not think it unusual. I have had them last to over 200K and others died under 100k. The control valve in the Sonatas is often the problem, it may be the same one in the Accent. That failure can present anywhere from 30K on up.

I have a 2000 Corolla (170,000 miles) with the original compressor and still working fine so far.

Hopefully this will offer you some peace of mind.

A reman trans Is much better than a rebuilt trans. Why? A rebuilt gets only worn parts replaced or what the rebuild kit contains.
A reman gets all new parts and is updated with all the latest modifications and service bulletins. They are about as good as a new trans.
