30,000 mile service and timing belt

I'm very close to the 30,000 mile mark and I was wondering if anybody knew exactly how much it costs at a Hyundai dealership? Also, a couple months back I took my car in for a service and they suggested I get a timing belt (I was at 27,000 miles.) I told them no because I feel like it is too soon. However, driving the car since then has shown me that I need to get it done. Has anybody experienced this problem so early on, and, does anyone know how much it costs. I think it's around the 400 mark but i'm not sure. thanks for the help

RE: 30,000 mile service and timing belt

Hi Mate,

Yes get the timing belt replaced, may not be done soon but needs to be done. Wait for the next service and so you can get the whole thing sorted out in one go. If the timing belt breaks, it will result in a horror experince. Just google timing belt breakage and you can get an idea of what happens when the belt breaks. The other belts (power steering, alternator and AC)can also be changed as they cost next to nothing.

The timing belt is 60,000 miles / 4 years. If it is less than that, and it breaks, it (and the associated engine repair/replacement) is a warranty item. When you say "driving the car since then has shown me that I need to get it done" I'm not sure what you mean. It is either working normally or broken; there is no in-between. It is an expensive proposition- $500 give-or-take, on top of the normal 30,000 maintenance which dealers usually try to get about $350 for. Here's a hint- use your owners manual to determine what maintence is required at 30,000 miles. By doing that I saved over $100 on my 30k service (I paid about $200).

like he said 60k before changing timing belt not at 30k. you might be experiencing a misfire causing you to think you need to change the timing belt.
