Auto trans/overdrive problems

I have a 2002 Accent GS with an intermittent OD problem. When the car has sat outside for a few hours it will not go intooverdrive or, may fall out of overdrive while traveling at highway speeds. Turning the OD off at the shift lever and then right back on again corrects the problem until the next time the car sits outside.
Oddly, the car can sit in the garage for days or even weeks without any problem.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, have you found a fix?

I have not heard of this before but I would surely get that checked out by the Dealer very quickly:

just keep it in the garage all the time:D it might be an electrical problem, if you are mechanically inclined you might want to check the wiring to the OD switch, it could even be an old fuse, i've seen some non-blown old fuses do some wierd things before. good luck

There are several things it could be... it might be a mechanical glitch in your transmission, although turning it off and on again makes it sound more like a computer or sensor malfunction. I would take it to the dealer, or any shop you trust, and have them check out your whole tranny system, including sensors and wiring. Hopefully it wont be anything major. But Hyundais are known for tranny issues; I have an '01 Accent whose tranny was replaced about 18,000 miles ago, and it still isnt right..the thing occassionally sticks in gear, or bucks when shifting (its an automatic) but conveniently it never acts up when the dealer has it. I wouldnt fret too much, but I would DEFINITELY get it checked out before you blow your tranny completely. Best of luck
