Can a Short Ram intake really cause pre-detanation from sucking in heat?

I was told this by person at Napa Auto that he was running a short ram intkae on his Accent 1.6 and the heat from idleing in traffic caused pre detanation ?After hearing this I took my off and put the stock one back on.Anyone ever heard of this happening

It makes sense, although I haven't hear any pinging on my car. I WOULD like to isolate the filter from the hot engine compartment air. I may try and design something my self.

No it won't cause pre-ignition detonation. It will cause the PCM to pull timing and fuel though resulting in a loss of power.

i dont think so. sorry for digging this up but i just wanna correct this. i dont have any problems with mine maybe it was cause by different problem but not with the short ram intake. but if you are really using the stock one it has less problem than making modifications or customizing intakes.
