Just bought new accent (not elantra) today....
Got a 2000 accent coupe for my daughter. It will be her 1st car. Its a 5 speed. It was backed into by a pickup truck hit and run when the previous owner had it. The hood is crushed in, but still will open. The front headlight sourround(I dont know what else to call it. The plactic whole front piece of the car) is damaged as well. They both need to be replaced. It doesnt run hot and the radiatior frame is not bent. The front fenders and all other body panels are straight. Car has 83k miles. The check engine light and airbag light stay on.
What years body parts will fit? Does anyone know of any boneyards in Central Florida that would have these parts or should I just get new aftermarket? What kind of fuel mileage can I expect? What service besides changing out fluids should I do? Thanks in advance! |

Try this site:
http://www.getcrashparts.com/ They sell replacement body parts for about every car out there. The hood can be pricey. My 2004 got in a fender bender a couple years ago and they had to replace the entire hood. I think that it cost around $600, but that was a body shop that insurance was covering. I'm nowhere near Florida, but I'd get the phone book out and call all the auto wreckers for that one. When you put all the new parts on, you'll probably want to have the car painted to match and that's going to cost more than anything else. The re-paint they did on the front half of my car after replacing the grill and hood was around $2000. I was lucky, the damage was only cosmetic so the car wasn't messed up at all, but body work is more expensive than mechanical these days. Try ebay. You can always find cars of every year, make, and model being parted out on there. As for gas mileage, my 2004 has a slightly bigger engine (1.6 instead of 1.5) but fuel economy should be similar. In hot Arizona summers with the AC on full power, I get 27-31 mixed street/freeway driving. I've gotten as good as 35 in that car on a long road trip and would have done better if I didn't go 85 the whole way;) Good luck. |
RE: Just bought new accent (not elantra) today....
The shop that painted my lincoln (Mike)said that aftermarket hood and front bumper cover shoud be about $400 new. But he will hammer me on paint and labor.
Just changed the engine oil, gearbox fluid, cleaned the engine compartment with purple cleaner, had my daughter clean the interior, shampoo the carpets and scrub the floor mats. Cleaned the battery posts real good to with a wire brush and re assemble. The check engine light went out. The engine has a liitle miss in it sometimes, I think I got some water in where it shouldnt be when I was hosing off the grease. Hopefully it will clear up soon. Had all 4 wheels off today but unfortunatly couldnt get anyone to help bleed the brakes. That will be a job for another day. The brake pads and shoes look good. The rotors and shoes are smooth. Blew out all the brake dust with the air hose. Will need to get new tires. The rears are really unevenly worn. The fronts are even, just getting close to the wearbars. They are 175 70 13. Will an alignment help? When you drive thru curves at speed, I can hear some action in each side of the front wheel drive? What could that be? CV joints? How hard is it to change the Hydraulic clutch fluid? I am old school. This is the 1st front wheel drive car Ive really worked on. My other cars are a 1991 Lincoln Mark VII LSC silver with 144k, 2000 Corvette FRC Nassau Blue with 12k miles (still under GMPP extended warranty until 10/2009) and the wfe drives a 1999 Toyota Solara SE V6 Blue with 81k(I have only changed oil and brake pads on that car.) Yes, the solara is fwd. But its a toyota and regular maintence is all I should have to do on it. Thanks! |
