key and immobiliser worries
hello all.
I'm a new 1997 Hyundai Accent owner in the UK. I bought this car in good faith with only one black key, but have since learned that the car has a transponder based immobiliser so if I lose the one key I won't be able to start the car!. Worse still, apparently I can't have any duplicate keys cut using the black key because they won't work either; apparently I need to have a special blue key which is the only one from which the transponder code can be taken and programmed into a new key. Obviously i'm worried that i might lose my one and only key, or that the transponder in it may stop working when I'm miles from home leaving me stuck. Any ideas as to what i can do? Also can anyone tell me if I can disconnect my battery without it affecting the immobiliser? Remember I don't have the special blue key. Hope all this makes sense and that someone can help Ed |
