New alloys rubbing!!

I have just put a set of 15" fox racing alloys on my '99 accent. however when there is a load in the back or i go over a bump i hear a grinding/rubbing sort of noise from the rear drivers side wheel. it may be the other side aswell but at the moment i can only hear the drivers side.
i have also gone up a few sizes in tyres. from 175/65 R14 to 195/55 R15.
Has anyone got any ideas as how to best solve the problem. Thanx
Neil

RE: New alloys rubbing!!

Get a lower profile tire. Or buy a stiffer suspension.

I am now completly stuck on this.
Ok the wheel was rubbing on the suspension arm. i fitted some 3mm spacers and this fixed the grinding problem.
now whenever i go over a bump or round a cornder it sounds like it is rubbing on the arches itself.
I have now had to resort to fitting the old wheels.
any ideas?

Hopoff,
You went from a 14 inch wheel to a 15 inch = (-1 inch) of clearance, then you went from a low profile 14' tire to a higher profile 15' tire. Now I'm thinkin' and I could be wrong but, if you kept 15' rims and went with a 175/65 R15 tire, it might work but, then again I don't know what the offset number on the rim you bought. Now with that all said and done & your scratching your head mumbling, "what the heck?" to yourself. You need a lower profile tire.
Hope this helps,
Brant

That is the issue. When you are increasing the diameter of the rim, for proper fitting you MUST decrease the height of the sidewall of the tire.

hopoff,
you can probably stay with the 15' rim but, go with the 175/65 or 175/55 r15 tires.

Brant is right, those are your best bets. I would go for the wider tire, but keep in mind that if you go to wide you may still rub.

Thanks guys, looks like i got to get some new tyres then. Will they fit those rims?

As long as the diameter and width match, then yes they will fit. Those tires suggested will most definately fit.
