Parking lights won't shut off *SOLVED SEE POST #7*

PROBLEM SOLVED! SEE POST #7 FOR DETAILS

Hello everyone,

My girlfriend has a 2007 Accent with about 50K miles on it.

For the past 6 months or more, when she goes to turn off her lights (headlights and parking/corner lights); sometimes the parking/corner lights will not shut off. When this happens, she flips the switch from off to parking/corner then back to the off position. Usually within 2-3 tries of this precedure the lights will shut off.

I have sat there while this occured and it sounds like the relay for the parking lights always 'clicks', but as I stated before the lights will not always shut off. The relay does have a slightly different sound when shuts them off Vs. when they do not shut off.

With this in mind, I was wondering a few things:
-Is this a common problem?
-Where is this relay?
-Anyone know a part number for this relay?

Thanks,
Ian

Probably the switch.

2007 > G 1.6 DOHC > Body Electrical System
INSPECTION
1.
The daytime running unit (A) is integrated in the junction box.
2.
Daytime running unit (A) is installed at the right side strut housing.

[See large image...]
3.
Check that the light operate according to the following timing chart.

[See large image...]
4.
If the daytime running light is not operated well, inspect the connector and terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.
If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
If the terminals look OK, go to step 5.
5.
Make these input tests at the connector by using ETM.
If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
If all the input tests prove OK, the junction box (control unit) must be faulty; replace it.

Hummm,

I orginally thought it could be the switch but when I am turning the switch on/off i always hear the relay click (but the lights don't always shut off). With this in mind I was thinking that if the relay always clicks then the relay is always getting the signal from the switch.

After reading the above post I am wondering if perhaps there is more to this system then just a relay? I will need to look over the schmatics, which I think I can get online.

I would imagine the parking lamps and headlights are on different ciruits. You may be hearing the headlight relay(s) clicking. As far as the DRLs if you have them, I don't think the parking lights come on with the headlights.

The relay that I'm hearing is clicking when I am only turning the switch to the parking lights. Unless the parking lights and the headlights are somehow apart of 1 relay (?) I don't think it's the headlight relay that I'm hearing.

Been VERY busy with work and other stuff, had not had a chance to get into this problem. But I think it might have resurfaced onto my 'things to do'.

Figured I would post an update on this problem.

We took the car to a dealership because the transmissino was acting up (see '2007 trans problem' post). While it was there we told them about the this parking light problem.

They first tried replacing the parking light switch but that did not resolve the problem. They moved onto the relay as being the problem. The relay is built into the fuse-box (which they had to order) once that came in they swapped it out and THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

This is all being done under warentee too - just wanted to note that should someone else be searching with the same problem.
