Problem fulling up the gas tank

I have a Hyundai Accent 2003 and about a year after I had the car I began having issues with putting gas in the car. I finally got so frustered that I took the car in to be looked at. The first time the staff forgot to look at it as I was getting some headlights replaced. So I finally had time and frustered about having to spend 15 minutes to put gas in the car because the overflow valve shuts off.

It turns out that it has to do with the Charcoal Canister. It seems this is a factory default and we as customers are paying the price.

Seems that there would have been a recall for the Hyundai dealer to replace this item.

Never has a problem withmy mother-in-law's2003 Accent. It's not a factory defect, it's probably just a clogged valve, filter or the charcoal canister itself. They are emission systems parts and should be covered under the warranty.

RE: Problem fulling up the gas tank

This has happened to me with TWO Hyundais I have owned, and after paying over $500 to be able to put gas in my son's 2000 Elantra at 75K miles, and now facing that same issue with my 2003 Sonata at 75K miles, I say YES this is a factory flaw. To be able to put gas in your car is pretty basic, and I should not have to pay $500 to do that-twice. I just called Hyundai America and complained and they will do nothing for me. I have purchased 3 Hyundais but no more. I am going back to Honda. You pay $$ either way-via repair and a cheap price for the car, or a bit more for the car and less $$ repairs.
My next car will be a Civic.

Wrong,it is not a factory flaw. If it was, everybody would have this problem. I have owned 3 Hyundais and one Kia. All 4 have had zero problems.

In my opinion, it's a user error.
