Default Screeching noise in cold weather start

Hi,

I have a 2001 Accent GS that has just started making a screeching noise when I start it in the morning. This only happens when the weather is extremely cold. After the car has been running a few minutes the noise is gone. The noise sounds like a loose belt. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yep, that's usually just the belt. Nothing major.

belts! see if they've lost tension (push on them with a finger) and sometimes they get some mild glazing on the back of them. use some sandpaper on the back of the belts, just run the engine and hold it up to it for a couple seconds. just be careful not to get your fingers caught in there or you won't have them anymore.

Thanks. I thought it was a belt. I just found it odd I only heard the noise in cold weather.

its because of cold contracting the belts and making them harder
