strange noise from under the hood?
if the path allows for you to bypass the the ac compressor, than just take a piece of string and wrap around the pullies and mark the length you need. than go to the store and find the right belt size with the length of string.
I am so glad I found this site!! You guys are awesome! I took my 2005 Sonata to Parr Hyundai because my air conditioner wasn't working, they said they fixed it and I paid over the phone but when I picked up my car, just as they were closing I discovered I still had no AC and this horrible noise was coming from the defrost when I turned it on! When I called them they told me it was probably leaves!! It also caused the rpm to go up. I am going to get the AC replenished and I hope that fixes the problem, thank you so much for the info!
As a proud owner of a 2000 hyundai accent, that winding noise is definately your A/C compressor.
Me and my wife had the same issue, and instead of attempting to fix it (I know how pricey compressors are..) I just cut the belt from the engine to the compressor.
I don't believe there are any long-term effects from doing such, other than increased engine power from not having to twist that belt.
If you do the same fix as me, make sure it's the right belt.
