Switching to Synthetic?
I have 68,000 miles on my 2002 Accent, which I bought one month ago. I don't know what the previous owner used for oil. I am very seriously considering using Mobil 1 full synthetic, or perhaps Castrol full synthetic.. I have absolutely no oil leaks. I intend to use the Hyundai oil filter.
I spend a lot of time in traffic, so I want to give my little engine the best it can get. Opinions? |
RE: Switching to Synthetic?
i have used Castrol Syntec 5W5o for many years, and my old 1990 Sonata 2.4-4bange operated for 436K km flawlesly. did not even had to replace a lifter. needless to say, that my newer 2000 Sonata 2.5 V6 runs on it as well.
(now has 60K miles) |
RE: Switching to Synthetic?
I have been using 5w30 Mobil 1 year 'round in my 2002 Accent for the last 50K km. Great oil and I will continue to use it as long as there are no leaks.
Only 75K km on the car so far. I change it mysellf and use a new Hyundai filter every oil change. I used Fram filters until I found out there was a big difference in the Hyundai filter and the cost difference for the right one was negligable. It is a toss up between Mobil 1 and Castrol full synthetic. They are both come highly reccomended . W.Y. |
RE: Switching to Synthetic?
Just for fun. Have any of you read the giant synthetic arguement of about 6 months ago.

RE: Switching to Synthetic?
Poacher;
Which one are you referring to. Was that the one where some guy thought anything that looked or felt slippery could be used in transmissions and a few of us had to show him where the bear s**t in the buckwheat ? ? ? [8D] That one was on transmissions. Is there also one that is all about engine oil ? W.Y. |
