braking vibrations and clunking

just purchased '07 Azera and notice the "clunking" that everyone is talking about...I can live with it but just want to make sure that whatever it is won't cause the car to prematurely fall apart. Any comments? Also notice that firm braking at 55 mph causes quite a vibration on the steering wheel...is this "normal" or does it sound like a defect withthe braking system in any way? thanks

RE: braking vibrations and clunking

I have never heard the clunking noise in my Azera. I would have them check the brakes, that is definitely not normal.

I have almost 15,000 miles on my Azera and I have not had any clunking noises either. No brake problems either.

RE: braking vibrations and clunking

Clunking noise is not the brakes but shimmying under braking is likely warped rotors (or as some want to say caused by brake residue on rotors). The dealer should inspect and true the rotors.
The clunking noise is only heard by some owners. Our one customer with the 'problem' was cured by tightening all suspension bolts and checking the shock absorber travel limiting plug. There is another potential cause, however, and that is the internal piston is loose on the piston rod. The shocks on the rear are very sloppy and allows way too much motion in pursuit of smooth riding. In fact they are so weak that increasing jounce considerably still leaves a 'mama-approved' ride.
