Hyundai coupe shifts to third gear and stays

Hello. I have a hyundai coupe 2006

Just after MOT and tightening of wheel bearing I had engine error light come on a few weeks back. The car was driving very jerky. I drove around a bit and once on a motorway. The light went off and the car seemed fine for a short while

Then the problem came back again. I tried using the manual mode and noticed that after a couple of seconds the car would shift to third gear and stay there. I can reverse but this is also jerky. I am currently having to just drive around in third gear

Before I realise what was happening re third gear I had the trouble codes read. PO732. PO733. PO734. PO736 showing up.

Is this terminal? Any chance could just be a sensor problem? Transmission fluid fine

Those codes are basically all the same, just for different gears (2nd, 3rd, 4th). Basically, yes, the trans is shot and need to be rebuilt/replaced.

Thanks for your reply. This was expected.

If I drive around in safe mode ie 3rd gear for a while the car will give up eventually right ? Is this likely to be after 100 miles , 1000 miles or 10000 miles. Obviously not the most comfortable experience but does get me from a to b and the other option is scrapping

I read somewhere that if the vehicle speed sensor wasn't working properly that it would put the car (transmission) in safe mode (third gear). Don't believe this is your problem.

Good luck.

Yes. In my opinion, the problem has to do with a faulty speed sensor, since you have mentioned that the transmission fluid level is ok.
