02' Elantra Code 0455
Hi to all.
The printout about the code lists gas cap as possible first problem. Should I just get a new one? If so would this one be ok.---Regular Cap; Carded Package; 2 25/32" Vacuum Only (1 49/64" x 2 3/64" Threaded)
OE-style gas caps meet or exceed all original equipment performance and safety standards. " Stant part # 10825." $5.35 OE equivalent Does anyone know that factory part number for this? I called dealer and they want $25.
Is it a bad idea to first try a new cap? Or should I get a smoke test first? I have a feeling that a few of the hoses might be worn/leaking.
Thanks for any help/suggestions. Angelo

Just an fyi.
After smoke testing the system, found out that a rotted out vapor line was causing the major evap leak. Everything under that car is rotting out, even though I keep it in the garage year round. Just replaced brake lines a few months ago. Also had the control arms rust/bust just like a lot of folks.
I'm looking for a new car and currently own 2 Elantras but I am starting to second guess myself and I am considering a Honda Cr-V over the new 2013 Elantra GT due to come out any day now. Relatively priced, big difference being fuel economy.
pizzaman.
