Default 06 elantra rims.... stud pattern???

Hi all,
Irecently purchased an 06 Elantra GLS (( it said 05 upgrade if that means anything ))
Anyway, i want to get some rims for it either 17's or 18's.
Ive been looking on ebay, and they have stud patterns written like 4-100 etc.

So ive searched and i cant find the pattern for my particular car, so i thought id ask here.

Does anyone know what the pattern is for my car, i know it has 4 studs, thats about it! [sm=dontgetit.gif]

Oh and whats an offset? Ive seen that word around too .

Also, im in Australia if that means anything......

I'm sorry, I didn't see your second question. The center plate of the wheel is hardly ever welded in the exact center of the rim, but is "offset" to one side. It's measured from the back side or inside of the rim to where the hub face bolts against the wheel. If you remove one the wheels, you notice that the distance from the back edge of the rim to center plate is wider that the distance from the outside edge of the rim to the center plate. If you have a notion to buy wider tires which will need wider rims, or buying used rims, you'll need make sure that offset is not too wide for the car. If it is, you'll likely have tires rubbing on struts, shocks, or other suspension parts, which isn't very good for the tires or the car. Too little offset pushes the tire out towards the fender lip, which may not be good either. Some people play around with this setting for custom wheels and tire, and if measured carefully, can result is some pretty cool wheel and tire combinations. Most of us should probably just stick with the stock offset and rim width.

A picture paints a thousand words. Here's a great pic to show offset:
