'06 Elantra...Water on Passenger Side Floor
 

In the beginning of June, I noticed the passenger side carpet was WET!

I thought perhaps one of the coolers had leaked, so dried it thoroughly for several days. Removed the floor mat and kept a towel to mop it up.

This has now happened two or three other times, and at times when the AC had not been in use for awhile (cool July).

Went in for service today, and the mechs couldn't find any leaks. I will have to take it back for a longer stay to see what they can find.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or might suggest something.

I believe it's the A/C. The drain is probably clogged. I know you said you haven't used theh A/C in a while but maybe you had the defrost on during a rain or maybe there is still some water in there and it's leaking slowly onto the carpet.

That was one of the suggestions from the service dept. They did check and clean out the hoses, so I will wait and see what happens now.

It did rain yesterday and there was no water on the floor. I wasn't out driving in it, so now I need to see if there's water when it's wet outside and I'm driving (ie, coming in from the bottom) or if the hose cleaning was indeed the culprit.

I've had the same exact problem with my '06 Elantra for the past couple of years, and each time I took it to the dealer they said they couldn't figure out what it was. So this week which was the 3rd time i brought it in, they had a water doctor they had hired who said the leak was in the a-pillar by the windshield and the fixed it. But I still have problems when the a/c is turned on; condensation builds up and soaks the carpet too. One of the service workers tried to tell me this is normal but I know that is ridiculous. "Momcat" was your problem ever fixed, and if so what did it turn out to be? I'm gonna have to file a lemon law claim if they can't fix it this time because this is the last year of my warranty since I bought it used.

I had a similar problem and it was the moon roof drain.
Usually if it is on the passenger side the AC drain is clogged.

Here we are, almost 6 months later....and I have yet another appointment with the car next week!

Last time I took it in, they found a "pinhole" leak in the windshield. Sealed that and were pretty confident it was fixed. The next heavy rain proved them wrong. Now the service manager says they will take out the windshield and completely re-seal.

DrD, don't have a moonroof, so it's not that.

Flordagirl, I will mention your reply when I go in. Can you file a lemon law claim at this point? I thought it was only during the first year of ownership.

I will definitely ask my attorney (who is also my son...grin!!!) to check that out. I am so tired of driving 30 minutes each way across town. When I bought the car, one reason was that the dealership was less than 10 minutes away. That one closed down. Now, each time I take it in, someone there has to take me home (more than an hour wasted) and then another hour + for the return.

Momcat, here in Florida you can file a lemon law claim as long as the car is still under warranty and you've taken the car to the dealer at least 3 times with no successful repair. I think the laws might vary a bit from state to state. You can do an internet search to find the law in your state.

To everyone who keeps saying "oh it must be a clogged drain". NO IT'S NOT A CLOGGED DRAIN. They already checked that. And Elantras don't have a moonroof.
