1997 Elantra Close Canister Valve
My 97 Elantra GLS is giving a P0446 DTC
So I'm trying to find which Hyundai vehicles share the same Close Canister Valve and Purge Valve. I'm looking to find a these valve locally and replace them, likely from a donor car at a junk. Any other parts you guys would suggest looking at in regards to this code? |
Go to car-part.com and search for general parts (like a transmission) for your car. It will give you a list of junkyards in your area where you can find your model car. Call the junkyards on that list, and ask if they are a "u-pull" yard. You'll find the car and you'll find the part cheap.

Code P0446 indicates a wiring problem with the purge valve, not necessarily a problem with the valve itself. I would check the wiring where the valve plugs into the harness first.

Ken, canister valve is different from purge valve. Canister valve is attached directly to the canister. P0446 specifies canister valve. Purge valve codes are like P0444 or P0445.

O.......Kay?
Now I'm a bit confused. To my understanding...the purge valve is under the brake booster, and the Canister Close Valve is in front of the driver side wheel in the bumper.
Is that right? Is there anything to check for in the rear quarter panels? |

?
OK, my vehicles a 1997, would that apply for my car?
I have found and checked both the purge valve and the canister valve, and I can see no damage to the harness, and both units appear as though they've never been disconnected. Perhaps it's the solenoid at the connector to the CCV? How much would a new CCV be at Hyundai? Any idea? Could code P0446 be anything else? |
The likely hood is either the CCV itself is bad, or the connection to it is bad (like a short in the wire you can't see). My next step would be replace the CCV as it's all one unit with the solenoid.

CCV Replaced..
Ok i went to Hyundai today and got a new CCV, replaced. Cleared code with a scanner and the code came back P0446. Ideas?
