2000 elantra drum brake questions
 

I'm working on a customer car and she complained about noise in the rear brakes. I pulled the passenger side wheel and took out the screw put in two bolts and broke the drum loose and its still wont come off??? I can see behind the drum and can see the springs laying in there so I know something had failed in the drum. I also can see the shoes holding the bottom of the drum on. I know on old Fords you can get through the back and turn the adjuster to release the pads, can you on this?

What does the white plastic button do on the back?

PS: parking brake is off.

Those do have adjusters but you need to get drum off. If you see springs laying in the drum thats not good. Best thing to do is try whatever means possible to get the drum off.

Is the drum stuck to the hub?
Or is the drum being held in place by the brake shoes?

I sure hope he figured that out 5 years ago.

But, I thought it might be good to bring up brake repairs
It is always a good subject to talk about.

If it is the shoes which is holding the drum then there should be two pins with springs which hold the shoes to the back plate. The head of those pins can be drilled off and release the shoes. Of course, you're going to need new hardware when you fix the brakes.
