2001 Elantra OBDII port/adapter

Have a friend with a check engine light on, Where is the OBD port and is it standard or where would I get an adapter to use my scanner ?
Thanks, Ted O.

All OBD-II are standard and they are usually located under the dash by the steering column.

You don't need an adaptor. All OBD-II use the same connector. If what you are looking at doesn't look like an OBD-II connector then you are looking at the wrong thing. You are probably looking at the keyless entry connector.

Thanks Bud, now you answered it... I am seeing the wrong connector.. I'm just a Ford guy trying to help a friend that just got this Elantra...;)

No problem. OBD-II is standard for all cars; GM, Ford, foreign, etc. The connector is the same and the codes are standardized. The original OBD has a different connector but all cars built after 1996-98 timeframe all use the same OBD-II.

As Nova already said it twice, all the OBDII connectors are all the same, or call it standard - 16 pins.
The Male connector is J1962-M.
