2008 Elantra Automatic Transmission Vibration

My 2008 Elantra has had a transmission vibration at about 35 MPH since it was new. Now have12,000 miles and after numerous visits to dealer they claim there is no cure. This vibration feels like the engine is lugging under load and is most severe when weather is cold. They admit that other owners complained of the same vibration but have taken no action. Dealer claims that federal rules prohibit adjusting shift points or other such action.
Advise me if you have similar experience with this problem and if you had corrected. Thanks

There is nothing that can be done on the dealer level until Hyundai Motor Company decides they need to change the ROM information in the TCM.. If there is No DTC stored in the PCM/TCM,, then all systems is operating within parameters set in the ROM.

Then they may decide to change ROM info for the PCM to compliment the TCM change.... then this progam has to be submitted to the .GOV for approval, then released to the dealer via next GDS update when it comes along..

There is currently no TSB addressing vibration.. I would suggest you select 3rd as highest gear for around town (stop/go), and manually select 4th as conditions warrant.. I think you is feeling the old FORD owners symptom of the trans holding in OD at too slow of speed dragging down the engine... ever try to drive a M/T car at slow speed in 5th ??

I was given a 2010 elantra touring with the automatic transmission as a loaner car from a local dealership and it does the same thing. My ET is a 5 speed, but this one with the automatic likes to put it in top gear at ~55-60km/hr (~35mph) and it vibrates badly if you are still slightly on the accelerator, it seems to sit at around 1200-1400RPM when it does this and it drives me nuts. Just thought I'd share that you are not the only one with this issue. My solution for it was the same as above, put it in "3" until I pass 60km/hr, then pop it in "D".

Thank you for confirming that this is not an isolated issue. The alteration of driving habits has also been suggested by the dealer, however I am of the view that the transmission shift points should be properly mated to the engine torque characteristics and not require manual shifting. Any other input to further confirm that this issue is widespread would be appreciated.

Give it time, and maybe with enough customer complaint to HMA, maybe some programmer will edit the program to make the shift points different, but the biggest issue is the EPA/mileage thing.. get them to top gear to reduce engine rpm and make for less pollution.

Posted a thread about my transmission issues prior to finding this one...sounds similiar

Getting Message to Corporate

The feedback on this vibration issue demonstrates the extent of this problem. However, Corporate has little in the way of motivation to resolve the issue without there being a negative bottom line impact. If enough owners with this and similar problems move on to other nameplates, change will occur.
The input on this is appreciated.

Well, I spoke with Hyundai consumer affairs about the issue and let them know I have an appointment for the local dealership to check it out and their service scheduler did say others have had this issue and forewarned no fixes.

At least I got a start with a case #....for what it's worth..

Transmission 09 Elantra

I have the same problem and even a BIGGER problem,Lets see if this sounds familiar to anyone else. When driving with the cruise control on at highway speeds 55 -75MPH , if the trans. has to downshift or converter unlock it will not shift back into high gear or converter lock back in,don't know which one it is,but it is a problem. you can tap the Coast button and it will shift,if you don't it will take 100 yards to 2miles or more to do it on it's own. I have been fighting with Hyundai over a year about this, all they do is reset the computer sometimes this works for a week or two sometimes it will mess up right after we leave the dealer.

Im experiencing the same thing

if the trans. has to downshift or converter unlock it will not shift back into high gear or converter lock back in
Same thing here, I drive my moms Elantra and it will randomly downshift and jump to higher RPMs and then after letting the engine chill for a bit it will switch back up gears. Makes me want a manual even more....
What could I do to fix this?
Money isnt an issue:confused:
