2008 Elantra oil pan

The garage told my dad that the oil pan or gasket on his 08 Elantra needs changed. They are going to charge $147 to do it. I was wondering if anyone has done it and how much of a job is it to do? I saw on parts website there is an upper and lower pan, I am thinking the lower is more than likely the problem. Thanks for any help.

Did you look under the engine to see if there is oil leaking out of the gasket/seals??
When I found oil on my drive way, I took a clean rag and started wiping the bottom of the oil pan.
Looking for leaks, it turned out the garage who did the oil change had stripped out the threads on the oil drain.
So I would suggest to look before you just have things changed.
Make the garage show you where it is leaking from.

Then if you decide that you can do it yourself
You will know exactly what it means.

I got under the car and it looks like the oil is coming from the lower small black pan. When I look up prices on a replacement all the ones that are just the black pan say for standard trans. What does the trans have to do with the engine oil pan? Is the standard and automatic small black oil pan interchangeable? I don't want to have to get the upper pan as well if it's not needed.

I changed the lower pan. Bought one off ebay for like $26.00 brand new. No leaks.
