AC is turned on when car is started

Has anyone seen this before?

Everytime I turn on my car, then turn on the fan, the AC is turned on. It doesn't matter if it was off when I turn off the fan before, or when the car was turned off. I could have the heater on, turn off car. Turn Car back on, and the AC will turn back upon as soon as car is started. Or turn heater on, turn off the fan, turn off car, start car again turn on fan, and the AC is on again.

Not sure what the **** is the matter with it.

What position is the HVAC controls set to (left dial)?

Did this just start happening or has it always done this?

it is set to the feet position (top, 12oclock). heat is on if that makes any difference.

Not like this. Normally, when I seen it happen prior, i would just turn off the fan, hit the AC button, and it was fixed (like it had some memory associated with it).

I did just replace my battery. Not sure if that has anything to do with it (i've replaced it before with no issues)

Interesting. Well, there is really no "heat" to turn on. You just select the place you want the air to flow and the adjust the temp dial. My guess is that the A/C button might be sticking. I know that happened on my mother-in-laws Accent. And when you select the deforst (positions to the right at 2:00 and 4:00) the A/C is defaulted to on. I'm wondering if something did happen with the battery change. It might be worth a try to disconnect the negative cable for a few minutes.

hmm, i'll try that and see what happens.
