Anyone drive the new 2011 Elantra yet?

Wifey and I recently drove the 2011 and I was very impressed. I presently own a 2003 Elantra GT sedan 5-speed and would like to trade it for the new 2011. However, Wifey likes the new Sonata better! So, I'm at a quandry. The planned new model will be our commuter. The new engine is peppy and seems a lot quieter than the Sonata, the car is solid on the interstate, it is quieter than my 2003 and the 6 speed auto trans is excellent. I like the new radical styling and the price point is excellent. Now, if I can just talk the missus into the Elantra? Wish me luck!

Owned less then an hour

I was driving my new 2011 Elantra Touring when I hit a snow covered pot hole on a turn. It then slide and when I braked the brakes seemed to jerk or fail.... it was weird. After the handleing seemed to be difficult and the ESC light came on and the seemed to malfunction. I had it towed back to the dealership and am now wondering if I have mad a mistake. I have a day to reconsider.... any suggestions or help out there?

Sounds like you've never driven a car with ABS or ESC before. The ABS was pumping the brakes because the tires were sliding. It was trying to regain traction. Locking the brakes with no traction does no good and won't stop you.

I got the 2011 Elantra (Limited) yesterday. Loving it so far. Beautiful car, smooth ride, fuel efficient. I'm not sure what else you could want in a econ sedan. It isn't especially fast but that isn't why you buy this class of car.

Got my 2011 Elantra GLS on the 24th of Dec and loving it! Nice car all around and very happy with my purchase.

I just got my Elantra and have not experienced the ESC but I did have that experience with a previous car I owned (a Smart Roadster). It is a very strange feeling, you effectively lose control of the car in terms of brakes and power momentarily. I would agree with the other poster if was probably normal operation but even if it wasn't you can always have it checked out.

Also, many people don't realize how amazing this safety feature-ESC- really is. It has saved my bacon more than once. It can keep you on the road when previous generations of cars would have you skate helplessly off it.
