blast from the rear part of Hyundai Elantra 2002

Hi all,

I bought hyundai Elantra GT 2002 (mileage~102K)last week. There was check engine light on. I took it to Autopro and they told me that its Oxygen sensor. So I did not fixed it. I bought it from a personal seller on a snow day. So I just took small test drive on local roads. when I was driving home (after buying the car), I realized that the car engine was giving jerks. I could feel it inside the car. Other than that car was OK. Today, I tried to turn on the car, it did not started. During my third try, there was a blast from the exhaust area. I came out of the car and when I looked under the bumper, I realized that the exhaust is all crooked and seems broken, also some part of the rear bumper is broken, due to the impact of blast.

Could you guys please give me some guideline about what would have gone wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Rahul
