Creaking/Popping noise while turning
Hello all,
My 2012 Elantra GLS (6spd man) has developed a creaking/popping noise from the front end. It is usually only noticeable at low speeds when the steering wheel is turned more than 1/4 or so (like when parking or turning at an intersection). Appyling the brakes while turning makes the noise worse. Straight line braking/accelerating does not produce the noise. Turning the steering wheel while parked does not produce the noise. Bouncing the suspension while parked does not produce the noise.
I had the car up on jack stands recently trying to replicate the noise and only found one thing that made a similar noise. With the front wheels in the air and the trans in gear, there was a bit of free play at the wheels. I was able to rotate the wheels a couple of degrees without resistance and then when the other wheel started to turn there was a creaking noise that was very similar to the noise I'm hearing while driving. Everything looks ok (all CV boots are intact, no evidence of leaking lube from any boots or bushings, very little underbody rust).
Any thoughts?
