Elantra - Exhaust Manifold Crack

I purchased a used 2000 Elantra, brought it in forroutine oil change and notified them that occasionally the engine stalls when I amstopped at light or slowing to corner.I wastold there is a crack in the exhaust manifold and that's the most possible reason for my intermittent stalls. Does this sound accurate? If so, where can I get it done for less than $800, which is what I was quoted.

...and where online can I find out how to flush out the transmission fluid and change the belts? Ican't afford to bring it in for these services right now. I was quoted $90 for trans fluid and $140 for new belts.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

the manifolds on those cars are known to crack, there was a recall for them. take it to the dealer and see if it was already replaced. if not then they'll replace it for freeee.

yup I had the exact same problem with my 02 elantra. Got it fixed and later found out it was recalled and the dealer would have done it for free.

I would advise going to one and they should be able to do it.

RE: Elantra - Exhaust Manifold Crack

Hi, I'm new to the forums.

I have a few questions about this TSB:

1. Do they apply to dealers in Canada?
2. If I take my car in with this TSB, should the dealer replace a cracked manifold for free?
3. Will they only do it if I am the original owner? (I'm not)
4. Does this TSB still apply even 3 years after it was issued?

Thanks for any assistance.

As of 2023, Hyundai states the recall is still active. One dealer told me that the system said obsolete. Another dealer told me they would if they could find the part. Wasn’t able to have it done although the manufacturer says still open. My car is a 2000 Elantra with a healthy crack on each of the 3 pipes.
