Hand Brake

Hi,

Does anybody know if there is a hand brake adjuster on the rear calipers, my 2001 1.6 will not hold on a hill, lever has correct amount of clicks and feels satisfactory and the rear shoes are very good with little ware.

Does anybody have any suggestionsas to what I can do?

Thanks

E

The adjustment is made at the handle under the console:

ADJUSTMENT OF PARKING BRAKE STROKE

1.Pull the brake lever with a force of approx. 196 N (20 kg, 44 lbs.) and check the number of clicks.

Parking brake lever stroke (Standard value) : 8 clicks

2.If the number of notches is not the standard value, adjust the cable length with the adjusting nut on the equalizer.

3.The indicator light will go out when the brake lever is fully released, and will light up with the lever pulled one notch. If it does not operate properly, replace it.

4.After the adjustment, check that the rear brakes do not drag with the parking brake lever released

Thanks for the reply,

I have done all of that the lever feels good but brakes are still not holding. Naturally i checked to see what the pads were like and are only about 40% worn

Maybe the pads are glazed over. Maybe the cables have stretched. Maybe the rotors are worn and too thin. I'd start by replacing the pads, then the rotors.
