Intermittent radio issues
Hi,
My wife has an '01 Elantra with 92K on it. Several years ago, she had the stock radio replaced (professionally) with a JVC. All was good up until a few weeks ago. The radio would stay on, but no sound was coming out. However, when she'd turn the lights on/off, tap the brakes, etc. it would start playing again. I have since put the stock one back in, and it does the same thing. However, when I tap the brakes/turn the lights on/off, I hear a pop/cracking sound from the front passenger side speaker. In browsing the forum, I've come across similar issues with other electrical components, including radios, with other posters. At first, I suspected a short somewhere, and everyone knows how much of a pain they can be to track down! After hearing the crack/pop in the speaker, I'm beginning to suspect the speaker wiring somewhere. I also read that several people have fixed the issue by replacing the positive battery cable. The cars battery was replaced about 2 years ago. But, the cables were not. Any one have any ideas? Thanks. pcpro215 |
Any guesses yet?

Disconnect that speaker from the system entirely at the radio end if possible. Do the other speakers work? If so, you've got a place along that speaker wire which is grounding out. Otherwise, sounds like a loose ground somewhere. Check those connections.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was guessing a short somewhere as well. Thanks again!
