It's falling apart help!
Hello Distinguished members of this forum,
I am a self dependent student who recently bought a 2000 elantra gls, I have been having a couple of problems with it and I need you opinion so please bare with me... After about 1 month of driving it (I've had the car for 3 months now) the car started hesitating and dropping to low RPM when I would stand still or switch driving gears ( I mean Reverse to drive etc.). In the last month the car has also started to stall after dropping to low rpm.( no check engine light ) I took it to a dealership and they said that I need a new tranny (code p734 or something like that) because my car won't switch into 5th gear. I noticed that it had been hesitant at 4th but I think it does change into 5th because my RPM is like 2.8-3.0 at 70 mph so it should be fine. SO I asked them what top do with the existing idling stalling problem and they said first take care of the tranny and then(2200$) I can't afford that, obviously so I took the car from the garage and the idling problem seemd to go away. Now , a week later suddnely the check engine light came on. Does anyone have any Idea what might be going on? Could they have done something temporary to make the problem go away and in turn it made the engine light go on? I'm lost, I don't know what to do and who to trust. Please help me!! Thank you http://www.hyundai-forums.com/style_...default/57.gif |
RE: It's falling apart help!
The first thing to do is find out what the CEL code is.

HEy Doohickie,
Thanks for the responding. Do ypou mean the diagnostice code? p0734? that's what they told me at the dealership... They said I need to replace the transmission but could it be a matter of reprogramming the computer? |
RE: It's falling apart help!
I will go to check it now at autozone again and report results, thank you!!!

RE: It's falling apart help!
Ok so i checked the cel at autozone and p0734 is what it's readong. My car takes time to get into 4th (the problem is described on top) but I don'tthink that constitutes getting a new transmission. Is there anything else I could do or check before I go into this expensive ordeal>?

RE: It's falling apart help!
How many miles are on the car?
does the trans fluid smell burnt? I assume you checked the trans fluid level? You could try having the trans fluid power flushed. It might be a clogged line inside the tranny or something. Ask them to switch through the gears a few times while it is hooked up to the machine. It could fix your problem, maybe not. But it is cheaper than a new tranny. |
RE: It's falling apart help!
all dis pussi footing around buy the trany, there is a speed sensor and clutches dad,low presure is why it's not going up in 5th. the engine could fix
