Loose steering

My steering has become very loose on my 2003 Hyundai Elantra. I can still turn but the steering wheel just feels very, very loose in my hands now. There just does not seem to be any resistance now. Prior, I felt that my car had started to drift, so I was going to have my alignment checked. But this just seals the deal, so I'm taking the car to the dealership on Friday to see what could have caused it. Any ideas? Hope this is covered by the warranty...

Miles please. under 60 K?

I just replace BOTH outer tie rod ends on a 2001 with 134K miles. I could not feel there were bad when moving the wheel around BUT when I pulled them out of the hub there were loose. It is tighter now! Off to replace all the struts.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I suspect you have a rack stripping out. I would not drive the car anywhere, but have it towed to the dealership.

Yes, under 60,000, actually 38,000 or thereabouts. Have an appointment on Friday at the dealership. This just started, maybe yesterday and I really noticed it today. I can steer fine, the car moves normally but the steering is just very loose.
