Malfunction indicator light

The malfunction indicator light on my 2004 Hyundai Elantra stays on. What could be the possible problem and is there is anything I could doto solve the problem?

Diagnosis of any problem begins by having the car connected to a scanner for retrieval of the error codes that have tripped the MIL to come on. This means taking the car to the dealership, independent mechanic or doing this yourself. Some auto part stores will pull codes for customers. Unless the car has high miles, it still has the 5 year/60,000 mile warranty in effect. I'd have the dealership look into this.
