Is my transmission slipping???
Hello.
My hyundia elantra 2003 GT has 86000 miles on it. i bought it at 76000 miles from the dealership. For a couple months now whenever i am accelerating above 30mph the car will jerk forward and slow down real quick. it does it right when the marker hits 25-30mph. It kinda feels like when you drive past a very fast moving truck and the wind *moves* you but worse. If i let the car coast and slow down it does it to when it gets below the 30 mark. I notice the RPMS jump real quick when it does it then goes to normal. (they jump from 1500 to about 1800 or so.) I checked my ATF fluid and it is brown. Peaple are telling me my transmission is toast and there is nothing i can do about it except wait for it to go and rebuild it. Tomorrow i am going to have new sparkplugs and a fiel filter put in because i have never done it yet on this car and i dont know if the old owner ever did. |
I'd get the trans services as well. If the fluid is brown, that's not good. I'd get a comple flush and fill, not just a drain and fill which only get's only about half the fluid.

My brother is gonna do the spark plugs and he said he will flush the transmission to. but he wants to use dextar 3 or someother atf fluid but in my manual it says only use hyundai tf fluid.
He says there is no difference and it will be fine. Should i order some fluid from my hyundai dealership? it is $6.70 per quart and im assuming i need 8.2 quarts to refill it all the way. |
Hyundai transmissions REQUIRE SP-III trans fluid. Not Dexron.
