O/D Off Light
 

I was test driving a elantra gt 2003 automatic today. It looked great except when we pulled back into the lot the overdrive off light came on. Wondering if this is electrical or probably something with the transmission. There is nothing about it in the manual and there is no switch on the gear shaft.

First, are you sure it was a 2003 Elantra you were driving?

Are you sure it said Overdrive Off and not Airbag Off or TCS Off?

Where did you see this light? Can you post a picture of it?

Uhhh, yeah I'm sure. The light was on the bottom all the way to the right under the fuel gauge.

There is no overdrive off light on a 2003 Elantra in the US. So I'll ask again, are you sure it was a 2003 model? Can you post a picture of it? Are you in another country?

Yes there is, at least on my 2003 as well. It says "O/D Off," right under the fuel gauge. It's red.

No, it's not in the owner's manual.
No, it doesn't come on at start-up.
No, I have never seen it or heard of it before in 8 years and 124,000mi... until today.
No, my car has never had an automatic transmission, or the cluster replaced; I've had it since new.
No, I have no idea WTF is going on.
