Post your Elantra fuel economy

I was just wondering what your fuel economy on your Elantra is. I am just going through my second tank in my brand new Elantra, so I have not calculated mine yet but so far I am not overly pleased with the economy.
After how many kms can I expect ideal fuel economy?

Generally fuel economy will increase over the first 8-10K miles while the engine fully breaks in. However, your poor fuel economy may be a result of your problem with the engine running "choppy".

Take it to a dealer and have it looked at.

I have kept detailed fuel and maintenance bills for my 07 Elantra (bought Dec 31 2007).

Heres what I have so far for the 17 months so far

AVG fuel consumption 31.04 MPG, Avg miles per Month 1477 AVG Monthly cost Inclusive of Maintenance $157.43 Avg Monthly Fuel bill $144.11

I am really happy with my Elantra

2011 Hyundai Elantra

I just bought the new Hyundai Elantra LTD. I am seriously unhappy with the MPG. :-( I just went over 600 miles with 2 fills (they gave it to me full). I drive over 80 miles per day, about 50 miles at 60 MPH and around 25 city for the rest. I do get stuck in traffic at some point and stop at lights as well. I don't over excelerate or ride the brakes. The Elantra has a 12.68 gallon tank. I got the gas light at 240 miles. From what I understand from the manual, it goes on when you have less than 30 miles left. So, I am getting 270 miles on the tank of gas. My meter in the vehicle says that I my average speed is 23 mph. It also says that I am getting 23.9 mpg. I am going to reset everything. It supposedly has a ECO tracker that tells you when you are driving "efficiently." Well, I hope somebody can figure all this out. I am getting pretty upset. I had a 2001 Honda Civic EX with a 11.7 gallon tank. I consistently got over 320 miles on a tank. Now I am leasing this Hyundai and am paying top dollar, $312 per month the lease. I have been told that I am stuck with this car.

The car isn't even broken in yet. 2 fill ups is nothing. Plus you were driving over 55-mph which lowers highway mileage and you did a lot of city driving.

And guessing at the range is not accurate. Fill up the tank, zero the trip odometer, drive until the light goes on, full up again. Divide the miles on the trip odometer by the gallons filled the second time to get an accurate MPG.

City driving really kills the mpg!

My worst mpg was 22 and my best was 40. Here's the clue: Avg speed was 14 mpg at the worst and 49 at the best!

Re: MPG Elantra

As I said, I drive to the city via the Southern State and go about 60 mph. When I get to the city I get about 25 mph. So for 30 miles I drive 60 mph and city about 25. I was able to consistently squeeze out 30 mpg with my old Honda with the same commute. I got 20 mpg with this Elantra. This car is new and the MPG is supposedly higher than my old car, 28 city and 34 highway, yet on a tank of gas that was smaller I got 340 miles from the Honda. The combined city and highway on the Elantra should be about 34 mpg. What does Hyundai think that city driving means? They say that it should average around 29 mpg city. Even if I ONLY drove city, I should not get less than 25. It really is frustrating. I just filled up yesterday and went on the highway, it took me over 20 miles to reach an average of 55, and the mpg calculator said I was getting 27 mpg. This car has a 12.68 gallon tank. I can't be getting only 240 miles. I will do as some suggested that it needs to be 'broken in.' I have at the present over 700 miles. I really feel rooked. I hope I am wrong. Thanks.

This is not typical mpg. Better have the dealer check it out!

And as I said, driving above 55-mph LOWERS fuel economy as does driving in the city. And at 700 miles your engine is not broken in yet.
