power steering problem in 2009 elantra touring
 

Elantra started up fine but EPS light immediately came on and steering wheel was locked. I turned the engine off and later it started up without an issue. The dealer ran a code check and came up as 1261 (steering angle sensor) and 2 other codes but tech doesn't remember them and paperwork lost and due to reset are no longer retrievable. I am wondering if anyone has had this experience and if only option is to replace the steering column for $1700? It has been driven without any issues with no repair for few days.
