Question about battery replacement procedure

I have a 2006 Elantra. Is there going to be a problem if I turn off the engine before I change the battery? I've heard that if I turn the engine off I may screw up the electronics-computer. But I'm afraid of changing the battery with the engine running. I've heard varying viewpoints.

Thanks

Where did you hear that? Whoever told you that is a complete idiot. Don't ever listen to any automotive advice he gives you from now on. It is very dangerous to change the battery with the engine running. Don't ever do that.

You will do no damage to your car by replacing the battery with the engine off unless you connect the cables wrong.

I agree.....it didn't sound right to me. I just didn't know if certain procedures were different on newer vehicles. I saw online a few of these 9v computer memory savers. Do you think it's necessary on my 2006 Elantra??
Thanks again.

All they really do is hold your radio preset memory.
