Default Removing trunk lock

2005 Elantra 4-door

The previous owner rekeyed the trunk lock, but there's no key, and I can open it only with the latch on the driver's side floor. I want to rekey it for my ignition key. How do I remove the lock?

Open trunk and access rear side of lock
There should be a "C" clip
Remove clip and lock should come apart.
Unless you have a different lock

There is no way to rekey the lock. You replace it.

Any locksmith can re-key the lock.
But, probably easier to buy new lock.

One key for both is my preference, but I'm open to a new lock. The cylinder is removable, so I'll talk to my locksmith and compare prices. Thanks, guys.

Oops, I've gone in a few times with a flashlight, and there's no C-clip. I still can't figure how it comes out.

If it is a lock cylinder there may be a nut near the trunk wall
Look at lock from outside.
The cylinder could be threaded and a nut threaded on to hold it against the trunk hood

OR

Sometimes there is trim or a panel that must be removed to access the trunk lock
Once removed then you should be able to see the inside of the lock
Three nuts should be holding the lock in place. Remove with socket set
Lock should come out

Check out youtube
They might have a video with your car???

These nuts can be replaced by own without taking help from a locksmith.

Did you read the thread or just skip to the end?
The OP wanted to re-key the trunk lock.
He just wanted some help to remove the trunk lock.
